Professor and Director
Youngmoo Kim is Director of the Expressive & Creative Interaction Technologies (ExCITe) Center and Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University and Resident Technologist at Opera Philadelphia. He received his Ph.D. from the MIT Media Lab and also holds Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering and Music (Vocal Performance Practice) from Stanford University. His research group, the Music & Entertainment Technology Laboratory (MET-lab) pursues activities at the convergence of technology and creative expression, including machine understanding of sound, human-machine(+ robot) interaction, and arts-integrated (STEAM) learning in science and engineering. He co-chaired the 2008 International Conference on Music Information Retrieval and was an invited organizer for the National Academy of Engineering's 2010 Frontiers of Engineering conference. Youngmoo is a member of the Apple Distinguished Educator class of 2013 and has performed with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, American Musical Theater of San Jose, and SpeakEasy Stage Company (Boston).
